New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Matt Pagnozzi had three hits and drove in three runs to lead the Memphis Redbirds past the New Orleans Zephyrs 5-3 on Saturday night. Pagnozzi's two-run double in the third inning gave the Redbirds a 3-0 lead, and he added an RBI single in the fifth. The Memphis catcher chipped in another single in the ninth to complete the three-hit effort. Mark Hamilton continued his hot hitting in his return to New Orleans, as the former Tulane star had two doubles with an RBI and two runs scored. P.J. Walters took advantage of the run support, allowing only one run on six hits over seven innings. Walters (4-2) struck out six and did not issue a walk, and gave up his lone run on a solo homer by Neil Wilson leading off the bottom of the third. Trailing 5-1 in the eighth, the Zephyrs threatened against the Redbirds bullpen, as the first four batters of the inning singled off Rich Rundles. After hector Luna lifted a sacrifice fly to bring New Orleans within two runs, Rundles rebounded to strike out Bryan Petersen and Mark Saccomanno. All-Star closer Fernando Salas gave up a leadoff single to Brett Carroll in the ninth, but got Wilson to bounce into a double play and Barden to ground out to convert his 17th save. Sean West (3-3) gave up three runs - two earned - on six hits over 3 2/3 innings to take the loss. The Zephyrs' southpaw walked three and struck out two. The weekend series with the Redbirds concludes on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
