Eugene Emeralds News Release
EUGENE, OR - The Everett AquaSox (37-19) made it three-straight over the Eugene Emeralds (34-23) on Friday night, handing the Ems an 8-2 defeat in front of 2,534 fans at PK Park.
THE DETAILS:
Winning Pitcher: Tim Elliott (4-1, 4.50 ERA): 8.0 IP | 3 H | 2 R | 2 ER | 1 BB | 8 K
Losing Pitcher: Kai-Wei Teng (2-4, 5.85 ERA): 3.0 IP | 4 H | 5 R | 5 ER | 3 BB | 6 K
Save: N/A
HR(s): Eugene: N/A | Everett: Anchia (2), Marlowe (3), Hoover (6)
HOW IT HAPPENED: Everett was held scoreless in the first inning for the first time since Tuesday's series opener, but a solo homer by Jake Anchia in the second gave the visitors the game's first lead, and the Frogs then broke it open an inning later in the third.
The third inning started on an ideal note for both the Emeralds and their fans in the stands as starting pitcher Kei-Wei Teng got Friday evening's beer batter, Cody Grosse, to strike out swinging to lead off the inning. But after Kaden Polcovich drew a one-out walk and then stole second, Patrick Frick roped a double off the short wall in right that easily scored Polcovich to make it 2-0, Everett.
Teng bounced back by getting Austin Shenton to strike out but then issued a four-pitch walk to Jack Larsen before surrendering a three-run homer by Cade Marlowe, a laser to right field that exited PK Park in a hurry to stretch Everett's lead to 5-0 after three.
Eugene began chipping into the Everett lead one inning later in the fourth. Utility man Brett Auerbach, getting his first start at PK Park at the catcher position, worked a one-out walk and was then brought home two batters later by a Sean Roby double that snuck just inside the third base bag to make it 5-1.
It became 5-2 one inning later thanks to another RBI double, this time from Ems outfielder Heath Quinn who went the opposite way with a double off the right field wall to score Carter Aldrete who had earlier reached on a one-out single.
The Frogs restored their five-run lead their next time up in the sixth, and it came via the long ball. After Jake Anchia led off the inning reaching base thanks to an Aldrete fielding error at third, Connor Hoover launched his sixth homer of the season, an opposite field blast that made it 7-2, Everett.
Everett made it 8-2 in the eighth after Joseph Rosa led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a Cody Grosse walk, advanced to third on a Kaden Polcovich fielder's choice, and then scored on a Patrick Frick first pitch single. Rosa's run was the final tally for either side on Friday night as Everett earned an 8-2 win, their third straight victory over the Emeralds after falling, 9-3, in the series opener on Tuesday.
PEAK PERFORMERS:
Ryan Walker - RHP: Eugene's leader in appearances out of the 'pen showed why he's been turned to the most this season, firing a scoreless 1.2 innings with three strikeouts while allowing just one base runner.
