Everett Loses to Kelowna 6-2

Tonight in Kelowna, BC the Everett Silvertips fall to the Kelowna Rockets by a final score of 6-2. This was the final meeting of four between these two clubs and Kelowna wins the series 3-1. Everett now has a 39-25-2-3 record, with 83 points. They are the 2005-06 US Division Title holders. Kelowna, second place in the BC Division, is trying to catch the Vancouver Giants. The Rockets have 94 points and a 45-20-1-3 record.

Ondrej Fiala scored the only two goals for the Everett Silvertips, one during the second period and one during the third. His first goal, at 17:25 of the second, came after a great shot snuck by Derek Yeomans, the Rockets' netminder, and was assisted by Damir Alic and Shaun Heshka. His second, at 11:32 of the final period, was earned on a power play after he caught a rebound. John Lammers and Peter Mueller earned the helpers.

For Kelowna Justin Keller scored two markers while Alexander Edler, Troy Bodie, Lauris Darzins and Chris Ray all tallied one goal a piece. Edler let his team in assists, with three, while Justin Keller and Tyler Spurgeon earned two a piece. Mike Card and Chris Ray also posted helpers.

Leland Irving started in the net for Everett but played only through the first period. In twenty minutes he made 5 saves on 8 shots. He earns the loss and drops his record to 36-21-1-3. Matt Esposito, finishing the hockey game, turned away 17 of 20 shots and his record remains static at 3-4-1-0. Derek Yeomans held down his territory and only let in 2 of 36 shots. His goaltending record rises to 30-14-0-2. On the power play Everett went 1 for 9 while Kelowna converted on 2 of 5. The Silvertips out shot the Rockets 36-28.

The next game for the Everett Silvertips is on Wednesday, March 15th. They will battle the Portland Winterhawks at the Rose Garden. The game begins at 7pm.
