Kamloops Blazers News Release
The Blazers played 3 games against divisional opponents this past week...going 1-2-0-0 to bump their record to 33-32-2-3 on the season and remaining mathematically alive for the final playoff spot in the BC Division. Here's how the week went:
Wednesday, March 8 - Kelowna-3, Kamloops-1
Kirt Hill broke a 1-1 tie midway through period three as the Rockets picked up their first win of the season in Kamloops by a 3-1 score. Clayton Bauer put the Rockets up 1-0 in the first period before Ashton Rome tied proceedings with a powerplay goal early in period two. The game remained tied until the Rockets supplied enough pressure to create a scoring chance which Hill converted. The Blazers had a few chances to tie the game late, but a Blake Comeau empty-net goal ended any hope of a Blazer comeback. Final shots were 40-20 Rockets...Devan Dubnyk was valiant in defeat while Derek Yeomans was steady for the win. The Blazers were 1-for-4 on the PP and 3-for-3 on the PK.
Friday, March 10 - Vancouver-3, Kamloops-2
Paul Albers broke a 2-2 tie with a late third-period powerplay goal as the Giants pulled out a 3-2 win over the Blazers on Friday night in Vancouver. Ashton Rome, on a second-period penalty shot, and Brock Nixon, on a third-period powerplay, scored the Blazer goals. Gilbert Brule added 2 goals for Vancouver. Final shots were 30-21 Vancouver...with Dustin Slade getting the win and Devan Dubnyk taking the loss. The Blazers were 1-for-6 on the PP and 7-for-9 on the PK.
Saturday, March 11 - Kamloops-5, Vancouver-3
C.J. Stretch scored twice, including the game winner 29 seconds into the third period, as the Blazers defeated the Vancouver Giants 5-3 on Saturday night at Interior Savings Centre. Stretch opened the scoring, with the Giants rallying for a pair to take a 2-1 lead after the first period. In the second, the Blazers responded with a pair of goals, from Brady Mason and Ashton Rome, shorthanded, to re-take a one-goal lead, 3-2, after 40-minutes. Stretch extended the lead to 4-2 to start the the third before Michal Repik brought the Giants back to within one. Then with Tyson Sexsmith on the bench, TJ Mulock picked up an empty-netter to round out the offense. Final shots were 39-25 Giants...Devan Dubnyk got the win for the home side. The Blazers were 1-for-8 on the PP and 6-for-7 on the PK.
