GAME NOTES: The WHEAT KINGS begin the final week of the 2005-06 Western Hockey League regular season Tuesday night when they take on the BRONCOS in SWIFT CURRENT.BRANDON is coming off a successful 3-game home stand that saw the WHEAT KINGS win three straight including back to back Overtime Shootout wins against the visiting SASKATOON BLADES.Shootout goals by MARK DERLAGO and TYLER DITTMER were the difference in a 4-3 win on Friday.while DARYL BOYLE and JEFF TOPILKO found the mark the following night as BRANDON battled back from a 4-1 second period deficit to record a dramatic 5-4 win.Saturday's win, coupled with PRINCE ALBERT'S loss in SWIFT CURRENT the same time, clinched the fourth and final playoff berth in the WHL's Eastern Division for the WHEAT KINGS, who have now qualified for post-season play for the thirteenth time in the past 14 years.The Overtime Shootout winner capped off a brilliant night for TOPILKO, who scored two goals in regulation time.RILEY DAY and STEPHANE LENOSKI, with only 39 seconds remaining in the third period, also scored for the WHEAT KINGS, who trailed 2-1 and 4-3 at the period breaks.Saturday's game marked the first time this season that BRANDON has won a game that it had trailed in through forty minutes of play.Before this past weekend, the WHEAT KINGS were winless against the BLADES (0-6-1-1) this season.BRANDON will play MOOSE JAW in the best of seven opening round playoff series, expected to begin on Friday. March 24th.With three games remaining in the regular season, BRANDON is 28-31-6-4, good for 66 points and sixth place in the Eastern Conference.At home, the WHEAT KINGS are 19-10-5-1 while on the road, the WHEATIES are 9-21-1-3.They're 4-1-1 in the month of March, after compiling a 6-6-0-1 record during the month of February.BRANDON'S next game is Friday night - TIM HORTONS FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT - against the visiting REGINA PATS.

VS. SWIFT CURRENT: This is the fifth and final meeting of the season between these two teams.BRANDON is 2-0-2-0 against the BRONCOS.In the last game played between BRANDON and SWIFT CURRENT, the WHEAT KINGS came from behind to win 2-1 in overtime.STEPHANE LENOSKI leads BRANDON in scoring with four assists in three games while rookie netminder KURT JORY has a 2.77 goals against average and an .885 save percentage.BRANDON has outscored the BRONCOS to the tune of 15-13.

BURKI NAMED PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Center CODEY BURKI was the fans' choice for WHEAT KINGS Player of the Year this season.The former WINNIPEG AAA WARRIOR currently leads the club in scoring with 24 goals and 55 points. In winning the award, he edged out TYLER PLANTE and MARK DERLAGO.

MILESTONES: Netminder TYLER PLANTE, the 2005 WHL Rookie of the Year, made 20 saves on March 3rd against PRINCE ALBERT for his second shutout of the season and eighth of his WHL career.That moved him into a tie with GLEN HANLON and JAMIE HODSON for the franchise record for most career shutouts.18-year old center CODEY BURKI scored three goals in the same game, which represented the first hat trick of his Western League career. It was also his fifth multi-goal night of the season.BRYAN KAUK'S 3-point effort against MOOSE JAW on Wednesday was a career high for the ex-KAMLOOPS BLAZER.Rookie KURT JORY recorded the win, coming in relief of TYLER PLANTE and stopped 5 of 6 shots during Saturday night's Overtime Shootout.

LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS: CODEY BURKI is 13-17-30 and MARK DERLAGO is 10-14-24 since January 1st.Netminder TYLER PLANTE has compiled a 2.55 goals against average and a .913 save percentage in 27 games since New Years Day. He posted a 2.35 goals against mark during the month of February.PLANTE is third in the WHL with 57 appearances (Only MATT KEETLEY of the TIGERS and LELAND IRVING of EVERETT have played more).BRANDON is 15-9-1-3 with NEW YORK ISLANDERS' defenceman DUSTIN KOHN in the lineup.KOHN leads the club with a +13 ranking.WHEATS are 14-20 in one-goal games.DARYL BOYLE and MARK DERLAGO have played in all 69 regular season games this season.WHEAT KINGS are currently averaging over 3,200 fans/game at the Keystone Centre this season.WHEAT KINGS have lost 181 man games to injury.Because of a scheduling conflict with the ROYAL MANITOBA WINTER FAIR, the WHEAT KINGS will play games three and four of their best of 7 opening round playoff series at Winnipeg's MTS Centre.BRANDON is 8-1-0 lifetime at the new arena.
