Everblades Fall Short, Wheeling Wins 5-3

ESTERO, FL-- The second meeting in Florida between the Wheeling Nailers and the Florida Everblades took place Friday night at Germain Arena. The Nailers opened the scoring with a goal at 17:58. Florida quickly followed with two more tallies from Shea Guthrie and Matt Duffy to close out the first 2-1. Wheeling came back fighting in the second and struck gold with goals from Kevin Schmidt and Blair Yaworski. The first tally of the third was scored by Wheeling right wing Thomas Beauregard. Ryan Lang pulled the ‘Blades within one goal. The Everblades pulled Morrison to gain an attacker, but Thomas Beauregard got an empty netter to seal the win 5-3.

Thirty seconds into the first period Florida's Brad Zanon was whistled for interference setting up Wheelings first power play of the game. Aaron Clarke shot one over goalie Mike Morrison's shoulder with 28 seconds left in the penalty to put Wheeling up 1-0. The Everblades kept the pressure on and scored their own power-play tally at 14:14. Brandon Buck jabbed the puck in off of a pass from Scott Hotham and newcomer Shea Guthrie. The Everblades took the lead when Shea Guthrie juggled the puck defenseman Matt Duffy picked it up and shot it home.

Wheeling opened the scoring in the second when Kevin Schmidt beat Mike Morrison. His goal was assisted by former ‘Blade Cleve Kinley and Casey Pierro-Zabotel. Wheeling took the lead back off of a goal from Blair Yaworski; Mitch Ganzak was credited with the assist.

The first goal of the third period was scored by Thomas Beauregard of the Nailers. Ryan Lang scored his seventh marker this season and made it a one goal game after beating goalie Brad Thiessen. Lang's tally was assisted by Shea Guthrie who posted three points (1g, 2a) on the night and Jordan Morrison. Wheeling sealed the win with an empty netter from Thomas Beauregard.
