Trenton Devils Acquire Slavomir Tomko

Trenton, NJ, December 18, 2009 - The Trenton Devils have acquired defenseman Slavomir Tomko in a trade with the Wheeling Nailers. The announcement was made by Lowell and Trenton Devils' General Manger Chris Lamoriello.

Tomko, 26, has recorded six points (3g, 3a) in nine games for the Nailers this season. Signed as a free agent in July 2009 with the Utah Grizzlies, Tomko was traded to Wheeling on September 16, 2009. Tomko played in 52 games with the Elmira Jackals during the 2008-09 season, scoring 13 points (3g, 10a) and amassing 61 penalty minutes. A left-handed shooter, Tomko stands six feet, weighs 200 pounds and turns 27 years old March 28.

The Zvolen, Slovakia native spent his collegiate career at the University of Vermont where he collected 25 points (7g, 18a) and 133 penalty minutes in four seasons with the Catamounts. Prior to his collegiate career, Tomko was a member of the 2004 Slovakia World Junior Championship team and spent two seasons in the USHL with the Topeka Scarecrows and St. Louis Heartland Eagles, scoring 56 points (11g, 45a) in 111 games.
