Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
BILOXI, Miss. - The Miami Marlins announced a transaction that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp roster prior to tonight's game against the Biloxi Shuckers at MGM Park at 7:35 p.m. eastern.
Right-handed relief pitcher Tommy Eveld (pronounced EE-veld) has been acquired by the Marlins in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for right-handed relief pitcher Brad Ziegler and assigned to Jacksonville.
Eveld previously this season pitched for High-A Visalia, where he was 2-2 with a 1.24 ERA with 12 saves in 32 appearances. For his work with the Rawhide, Eveld was honored as a 2018 California League Midseason All-Star. Eveld recently joined Double-A Jackson in the Southern League, and with the Generals was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA with one save in three appearances with the Generals.
Eveld was originally selected by the Diamondbacks in the ninth round of the 2016 draft out of South Florida. With USF Eveld was a quarterback on the football team then walked on the USF baseball team. Eveld, 24, is a native of Coral Springs, Florida.
The Jumbo Shrimp roster stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.
Tonight the Jumbo Shrimp begin a five-game series with the Biloxi Shuckers at MGM Park at 7:35 p.m. eastern.
