CHATTANOOGA, TN - The Chattanooga Lookouts pounded out five doubles and 15 hits en route to a 12-3 win over the Mississippi Braves in Thursday night's series opener at AT&T Field. In the loss, Tyler Marlette blasted his 11th home run and Atlanta Braves No. 5 prospect Cristian Pache recorded his second-straight multi-hit game to begin his time in Double-A.

Coming off a doubleheader split on Wednesday night at Trustmark Park and an overnight bus ride to the Lookout City, Chattanooga (16-23, 52-56) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first two innings. M-Braves starter Elian Leyva (L, 2-1) gave up back-to-back doubles from Zander Wiel and Brent Rooker and it was 1-0 right away in the first inning. Later that inning, Mitchell Kranson brought home Rooker with a single. Wiel picked up his second in the second inning with a two-run single that pushed the lead to 4-0.

Leyva settled in after the first two innings and pitched shutout baseball through the fifth inning, retiring the final seven batters he faced. In his second M-Braves start, Leyva yielded four runs on a career-high eight hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Marlette drew the M-Braves (21-19, 50-60) within a run in the top of the sixth inning with a three-run homer over the right-field wall. Marlette took a borderline pitch on 1-2 and then took the 2-2 pitch from Chattanooga starter Lewis Thorpe (W, 7-4) for his 11th homer of the season. The three RBI gives the 25-year-old from Florida 40 on the year.

The homer forced Thorpe from the game. The Australian right-hander earned the win with seven strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

The Lookouts would answer in the bottom of the sixth inning by sending eight hitters to the plate and scoring five runs. Kelvin Vasquez took over for Leyva and let the first four batters reach. Tanner English drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the first run. Rooker made it 6-3 with a sacrifice fly to right. The former Mississippi State Bulldog was 2-for-4 with a two RBI on the night and now leads the league with 69 driven in. Chris Paul capped the inning with a three-run single to right and it was 9-3 Lookouts.

Chattanooga tacked on three more runs in the seventh inning on a two-run double by Wiel and RBI single from Jordan Gore.

Adam McCreery relieved Vasquez in the seventh inning and pitched 1.1 scoreless with two strikeouts.

Marlette finished the night 2-for-4 and Pache was 2-for-5, batting .571 over his first two Mississippi games.

The M-Braves and Lookouts will play game two of the five-game series on Friday night at AT&T Field. LHP Michael Mader (3-2, 3.38) makes the start for Mississippi against LHP Dietrich Enns (0-5, 6.00) for Chattanooga. First pitch is set for 6:15 pm CT with coverage beginning at 6:00 pm CT on 103.9 WYAB and the free TuneIn Radio App. For more information, call the M-Braves Front Office at 601.932.8788 or 888-BRAVES4.
