
Evan White Shines In Tacoma's Loss In Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Tacoma Rainiers (29-33) dropped their series opener to the Nashville Sounds (30-29), 11-3, on Friday night at First Tennessee Park.
First baseman Evan White, who was selected by Seattle with the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2017 draft, collected three hits in his Triple-A debut with Tacoma. He swatted a double to straightaway center field on the first pitch he saw in the game and added another double in his third at-bat of the night.
Infielders Gordon Beckham (2x4) and Seth Mejias-Brean (2x4, R, HR, 2 RBI) both also collected multiple hits for the Rainiers.
Rainiers starting pitcher Ross Detwiler, making his first start of the year, worked just 1.2 innings and allowed six runs on five hits. He issued three walks and struck out four on 62 pitches (39 strikes).
Tyler Higgins (1.2 IP), Shawn Armstrong (1.0 IP), and Nick Rumbelow (1.0 IP) combined to toss 3.2 innings of scoreless work while striking out seven. Overall, Tacoma's pitching staff struck out 13 batters, their third-best mark of the season.
Tacoma right-handers Rob Whalen (6-3, 4.91) and Nashville righty Edwin Jackson (0-0, -.--) will take the mound as the Rainiers and Sounds continue their series on Saturday night at 5:05 p.m. PT.
