Fresno wins rubber match 6-2 behind Sneed's gem

The Fresno Raisin Eaters (36-24) were victorious over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (31-27) 6-2 Thursday night at Chukchansi Park. Fresno wore throwback jerseys to pay homage to the 1906 team, which was the first PCL-club (established 1903) in the city. Even with the unique threads, starter Cy Sneed (6-2, win) dazzled once again. He scattered five hits and punched out eight (season-high) in six scoreless frames. It was his fifth start this year without yielding a run and his second without a walk. In his last 33 innings, Sneed has a 1.36 earned run average with 30 strikeouts and five free passes.

Fresno grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second after Jon Kemmer smacked a single into right field, plating AJ Reed (1-for-2). Then, a wild pitch permitted J.D. Davis to trot home. The advantage extended to 4-0 in the bottom of the third thanks to a pair of sacrifice flies.

A double play in the top of the seventh netted the first run for the Sky Sox.

Tyler White expanded the lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the seventh when he mashed a two-run shot to left field. It was his 11th longball of the season, tying Reed for the team-high.

Colorado Springs cut the deficit to 6-2 in the top of the ninth after a Shane Opitz (2-for-4) single, adding Dylan Moore (3-for-4). The four-run advantage was enough for Buddy Boshers (save), who fanned Kyle Wren (five-K night) to end the game.

Bakersfield native Corbin Burnes (2-4, loss) lasted five innings. His final line tallied five hits, four runs (earned), three walks and seven strikeouts.

With the victory, Fresno picked up its 10th series win and improved to 18-6 when giving up three runs or fewer.

Depending on playoffs, this would be the final meeting between the two squads as the Sky Sox relocate to San Antonio starting next year. Since 1998, the Raisin Eaters/Grizzlies finished with a record of 110-93 all-time versus Colorado Springs.

The Raisin Eaters/Grizzlies continue the homestand with a four-game set starting Friday night against the Oklahoma City Dodgers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PT. Fresno RHP Mike Hauschild (3-5, 4.68) and Oklahoma City RHP Daniel Corcino (2-0, 1.95) are the probable matchup.
