Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers continue their West Coast road trip and open a four-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies at 9:05 p.m. at Chukchansi Park. OKC is in the midst of a stretch of 14 straight games against Pacific Conference teams and is 2-1 so far.
Last Game: The Dodgers scored two runs in five separate innings on the way to a 10-6 win against Sacramento Thursday night at Raley Field. The Dodgers scored twice in each of the second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings to build a 10-3 lead, then held on to win the finale of their three-game series. The Dodgers took the game's first lead in the second inning when Travis Taijeron hit a two-run homer. The River Cats tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double by Steven Duggar. The Dodgers regained the advantage in the third inning when Henry Ramos connected on his fourth homer of the season for a 4-2 OKC lead. OKC had the bases loaded in the fourth and scored when Andrew Toles was hit by a pitch and Ramos delivered a sac fly. Sacramento scored a run with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning with a RBI double by Duggar. Angelo Mora's RBI triple in the fifth inning pushed the Dodgers' lead to 7-3. Pitcher Tyler Pill then brought home another run later in the inning with a RBI single for an 8-3 Dodgers advantage. A two-out, two-run double by Toles extended the Dodgers' lead to 10-3 in the seventh. Myles Schroder's solo homer in the bottom of the seventh and a two-run home run by Chris Shaw in the eighth inning cut OKC's lead to 10-6. Pill (1-1) earned his first win of the season with OKC, while Sacramento starting pitcher Taylor Hill (0-1) was charged with the loss.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Emmanuel De Leon (0-0) makes his first Triple-A start tonight...De Leon rejoined OKC June 7 for his third stint with the team, following about one month in Extended Spring Training due to injury...His last game action was May 5 with OKC against Colorado Springs, when he tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief...His last start was a spot start for Double-A Tulsa in Game 2 of a doubleheader April 27 against Northwest Arkansas. He did not allow a run or hit over 3.0 innings, with two walks and no strikeouts...De Leon made his Triple-A debut with the Dodgers April 18 at Round Rock, striking out the only batter he faced...He has pitched in seven total games this season during his time with Tulsa and OKC combined...He signed with the Dodgers as a free agent March 19 and is back playing in the United States for the first time since 2014...Prior to this season, he pitched in the Venezuelan Winter League in 2016 and in the Dominican Winter League in 2017...De Leon pitched in the Pittsburgh organization from 2008-14, advancing as high as Double-A Altoona...He originally signed with Pittsburgh July 24, 2007 as an international free agent from La Vega, D.R.
Against the Grizzlies: 2018: 0-0 2017: 2-2 All-time: 58-39 At FRE: 26-22 The Dodgers and Grizzlies are meeting for their lone series of the season...During their last trip to Chukchansi Park May 23-26, 2016, the Grizzlies swept the four-game series and outscored the Dodgers, 35-15, with eight home runs. It was the first series sweep by Fresno against OKC since 2010 in Bricktown. It also marked just the second time since the teams first started playing each other in 1998 OKC lost the season series...The teams split their four-game set at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark last season, 2-2, with OKC winning the series finale, 14-5. Darnell Sweeney led the Dodgers with five hits and five RBI in the series as OKC outscored Fresno, 26-18. The Dodgers homered six times and held Fresno to two dingers in the set...OKC owns a 12-2-6 all-time series record against Fresno...Entering tonight, the Grizzlies have won seven of the last nine and eight of the last 11 meetings between the teams.
Winding Road: The Dodgers won the final two games of their series in Sacramento to post wins in back-to-back road games for the first time since April 19-20. OKC's 10 runs scored at Raley Field last night was their highest total in a nine-inning road game this season and also tied their highest run total overall in a road game this season. The Dodgers scored 23 runs in their three-game set against the River Cats, with 19 of those runs over the last two games. Going back to Tuesday, the Dodgers scored at least one run in 12 of their last 19 innings. Prior to that, the Dodgers had scored in just five of their previous 37 innings on the road...The Dodgers slashed .348/.433/.557 in Sacramento after entering the series with a .238/.297/.356 road slashline. They scored 23 runs after plating just 21 runs over their previous eight road games combined...Although the Dodgers have the most home wins in the Minors with a 23-6 record at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, they are just 12-15 on the road this season. Tonight they'll aim to win three straight on the road for the first time all season.
Give Me Some Mora: Angelo Mora racked up four hits with a RBI triple and three runs scored Thursday night. The four-hit outing was his second in three games, as he joined Henry Ramos as the only two OKC hitters this season with multiple four-hit games. Since rejoining OKC Sunday, Mora is 11-for-21 with five RBI and four runs scored. During his first stint with OKC April 16-May 3, Mora batted just .189 (7-for-37).
Steady Eddie: With a 2-for-5 performance, Edwin RÃos picked up his sixth multi-hit effort Thursday night in his first 11 games with OKC after missing close to two months of the season due to injury. He has hit safely in nine of his 11 games, and over his last eight starts, RÃos is 13-for-33 (.394) five extra-base hits and four RBI.
On Strike: The OKC pitching staff has notched 65 strikeouts through their first six games of June, which is tops in the PCL, and they have struck out at least nine batters each game...After setting the PCL single-season record for strikeouts in both 2016 and 2017, the Dodgers currently rank just eighth in PCL with 487 strikeouts through 56 games.
Mound Men: The Dodgers' pitching staff is currently going through a bit of a rough patch. Over the last eight games, the Dodgers have allowed at least five runs in six games and have posted a 4.74 ERA (39 ER/74.0 IP) with 47 runs total (5.9 runs per game). Opponents are batting .288 (86x299) with eight homers. The Dodgers have allowed 38 walks against 76 strikeouts, resulting in a 1.68 WHIP. Although the team has held opponents during this stretch to .239 clip with RISP (21x88), the opposition is averaging 11 at-bats per game with RISP.
Around the Horn: Outfielder Andrew Toles returned to OKC's lineup Tuesday after being on the Disabled List since April 14 with a right hamstring injury and has gone 3-for-14 across his first three games back. He's hit safely in all nine games with the Dodgers this season, going 15-for-40 (.375) with six extra-base hits, 10 RBI and eight runs scored...Alex Verdugo has hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games, going 23-for-68 (.338) with 10 runs scored and six RBI...Kyle Farmer has hit safely in 15 of his first 17 games since joining OKC, swatting three homers and driving in 15 runs with 14 runs scored...Henry Ramos hit his fourth homer of the season last night, but his first since April 17. He's 9-for-21 with eight RBI over his last eight games (five starts)...Each of the Dodgers' last four games have extended beyond three hours in length, marking the first time that has occurred since June 30-July 3, 2017.
