Augusta GreenJackets News Release
North Augusta, SC - After Spencer Strider's dominant performance on Wednesday, Joey Estes followed it up with five innings and eight strikeouts. Braulio Vasquez scored on a stolen base, and two errors on the same play in the 7th, and Augusta won by a final of 3-2.
Angel Macuare went five innings without allowing a hit for Fayetteville while striking out seven. The Jackets only had two hits total for the game.
Estes was sensational in his third start of the year. He allowed an unearned run in the 6th inning when Kennedy Corona reached base, and he would exit the game.
Corona swiped two bases, and a groundout from Zach Daniels made it 1-0. Later in the frame, a Yeuris Ramirez double made it 2-0.
Augusta had an answer though. With the bases loaded in the home-half of the 6th, Willie Carter delivered the first hit of the night for the Jackets to make it 2-1. Brandon Parker was hit by a pitch to score Drew Campbell and tie the score at two.
In the 7th inning, Vasquez stole 2nd and the throw to 2nd base sailed into centerfield. Vasquez got up and sprinted to 3rd base. The throw from centerfield went into the stands. Vasquez walked home and Augusta led 3-2.
A great effort from Estarlin Rodriguez kept the Jackets in control. He went three innings, allowing one unearned run, and he'd strikeout four.
Justin Yeager earned his 1st save of the season in the 9th inning to secure the win.
NOTES:
* Willie Carter extended his on-base streak to 12 games. * Justin Yeager hasn't allowed a run in six appearances this year. * Braulio Vasquez leads the Low-A East with 10 stolen bases.
