(Edmonton) - When the Edmonton Eskimos host the Saskatchewan Roughriders this Saturday to kick off the 2013 season, the game will be dedicated to supporting the tens of thousands affected by flooding in southern Alberta.

"We battle on the field, but are always there for one another when it comes to helping Albertans," says Eskimo President and CEO Len Rhodes.

Alberta's own country sensation Corb Lund will perform at halftime in tribute to flood-affected communities and those who have generously opened their homes to evacuees.

Fans can donate to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Flood Response at stadium gates throughout the game. Fans are welcome to bring non-perishable food items and clothing donations to the CORUS Radio trailer located at Gate 6.

The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club has donated $10,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for flood relief efforts as part of a signature campaign. Throughout the week, Edmontonians are asked to sign one of four banners to show their support for those affected by the flooding. $1 will be donated for every signature on the banner, with goal of raising $50,000 for the Canadian Red Cross Flood Response. The banners will make their first stop at the sold-out Taylor Swift concerts at Rexall Place today and tomorrow and will end their journey at the Eskimos game this Saturday. Lund was the first to sign the banners.

"On behalf of the Canadian Red Cross I would like to thank the Edmonton Eskimos for their incredible support," says Sue Phillips, Director General of the Red Cross in Western Canada. "The support of the team and their fans will ensure that the Red Cross can continue to respond and support families affected by the devastating floods throughout Alberta."

The Eskimo home opener in support of the southern Albertan flood recovery is this Saturday June 29 at 1:30 p.m.
