Edmonton Elks News Release
(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club announced today that free agent linebacker Jason Lamar has been signed by the club. Terms of the deal were not released.
This marks a return to Edmonton for Lamar who signed as a free agent with the Green and Gold in September of 2003 after being cut by the Houston Texans. Lamar did not see game-action that year and was subsequently traded to Hamilton along with the Esks' second-round pick (14th overall) in exchange for the Tiger-Cats' second-round selection (10th overall) in the 2004 CFL Canadian College Draft.
Lamar played 13 games for the 'Cats in 2004 racking up 59 defensive tackles, three tackles for a loss, five sacks, and two interceptions both of which were returned for touchdowns. After being released by Hamilton, Lamar joined the Montreal Alouettes for two regular season games and added seven defensive tackles and two more on special teams.
"Jason has proven he can play in this league and I look forward to seeing what he can bring to our defense," said Eskimo head coach Danny Maciocia.
