Edmonton Elks News Release

(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club announced today the signing of free agent quarterback Khari Jones. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

Jones, the 2001 CFL Most Outstanding Player, is a prolific passer who split the 2004 season between Winnipeg and Calgary. He finished the 2004 season completing 207 passes on 367 attempts for 2,711 yards, 12 TD's and 10 interceptions. The California – Davis product started his CFL career with BC (1997-1999), but blossomed into one of the league's premier signal-callers following a trade to Winnipeg in February 2000.

"Over the past five years, Khari has established himself as one the CFL's strongest quarterbacks. He's a proven leader and a quality person who will be a great asset to the Eskimos both on and off the field," said Eskimo head coach Danny Maciocia.

During five seasons with the Bombers (2000-2004), Jones set 18 club records and was named a 2001 CFL all-star and twice earned divisional and CFLPA all-star honours. Jones was traded to Calgary on September 24, 2004 and appeared in three games for the Stampeders. In seven active seasons, Jones has amassed more than 20,000 passing yards and thrown 144 career touchdowns.

"I am very excited to be coming to Edmonton and playing for a team that is rich in history, has an outstanding fan base and is always in the hunt for a championship. I am ready to contribute in anyway possible," said Jones.
