Lake Erie Crushers News Release

AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers suffered a tough setback at home on Wednesday night at Mercy Health Stadium, as they committed six errors in a 12-4 loss to the Washington Wild Things.

The six errors for the Crushers (28-46) are a season high, and four of them came in the seventh inning where the Wild Things (34-40) pulled away with six runs on just one hit. The victory for the Wild Things snapped a five game losing streak at Mercy Health Stadium.

Washington jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. Wes Darville smashed his second homer of the season, a solo shot over the wall in right field to give the Wild Things an early 1-0 advantage.

The Wild Things tacked on three more in the top of the third. They had runners on second and third with one out when Wagner Lagrange belted a two run double to right-center field, plating both Anthony Brocato and Darville. Tristan Peterson drove Lagrange homer later in the inning with a two out RBI single to center.

Lake Erie used the long ball to battle back in the bottom of the fourth. Zach Racusin reached on a single to start the inning and Scout Knotts followed with a double down the left field line. Josh Rego then smashed a three run bomb over the wall in left, his third of the season to bring the Crushers within a run (4-3).

Rego struck again for the Crushers in the bottom of the fifth. Walks were issued to Drue Galassi and Knotts, and with runners on first and second with one out, Rego smacked a game tying RBI single to left to score Galassi.

Washington regained the lead quickly in the top of the sixth inning when Robert Chayka doubled to left to score Scotty Dubrule. However, it was the seventh inning where the Wild Things pulled away and scored six times on just one hit, while capitalizing on four Lake Erie errors.

The Wild Things added one last run in the top of the ninth when Tomas Sanchez launched a solo homer over the wall in left.

Justin Showalter (6-4) picked up the win for Washington after allowing four runs, three earned on seven hits with three strikeouts in five innings of work. Matt Mulhearn (4-5) took the loss after allowing five runs, only two earned on six hits with a pair of strikeouts in six innings of action.

Four Crushers hit safely multiple times on the night. Racusin went 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to seven games in the process. Knotts went 2-or-3 and reached safely three times while Rego went 2-for-4 and drove in all four Crusher runs and Jarrod Watkins went 2-for-4 as well.

The Crushers will finish their three game series with the Wild Things at Mercy Health Stadium on Thursday night. Right-hander Yasel Santana (2-6, 5.03) will start for the Crushers and the Wild Things will counter with righty Dariel Fregio (2-1, 2.89). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
