New York Boulders News Release
POMONA, NY - The New York Boulders fell into an early deficit Wednesday night against the Tri-City ValleyCats and were never able to climb out, losing 12-4 at Clover Stadium to snap a three-game winning streak.
The ValleyCats scored in each of the first four innings, building a comfortable 10-1 lead less than midway through the game.
Tri-City jumped out to two-run lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly that led to both a double play and two runs being scored. Juan Kelly flew out to right field, bringing home Cito Culver from third base; but Ian Walters got caught in a rundown long enough for Oscar Campos to score before Walters was tagged out to retire the side.
Aaron Altherr hit a towering three-run home run to center field in the top of the third inning, which was immediately followed by a solo home run from Josh Goldfarb. The Boulders got on the board in the bottom half of the inning on a solo home run by Patrick Kivlehan, who extended his hitting streak to 12 games in the process.
Tri-City and New York exchanged two runs apiece in the seventh inning and the Boulders plated one more in the bottom of the ninth to end the scoring.
Matt McDermott drove in a pair of runs for New York, while Kivlehan and David Vinsky each drove in one run for the Boulders.
New York (40-31) and Tri-City (49-28) will play a rubber match Thursday night at Clover Stadium with a first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. to wrap up the series. For information on Boulders tickets, value packs and more, visit the Boulders' official website at www.nyboulders.com.
