Errors Cost Bats in 8-7 Loss

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-Leadoff shortstop Pedro Lopez drove in three runs off 3-for-4 hitting and scored a run, but Louisville fell to West Division leaders Toledo 8-7 in front of 10,382 at Louisville Slugger Field on Saturday evening.
In a game that saw four lead changes and three ties, the Bats committed a season-high five errors. The two teams combined for 29 hits in the three hour, thirty-three minute marathon.
The Mud Hens pulled ahead for good in the eighth inning when center fielder Brent Clevlen knocked a bases loaded, two-out single to left field, scoring Henry Mateo and Timo Perez.
Right fielder Jeff Bannon had a two-run single in the sixth inning to make the score 7-6 in favor of Louisville and finished his evening 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and a stolen base.
International League home run leader Mike Hessman of Toledo was 0-for-3 with a pair of walks, but Mud Hens first baseman Chris Shelton belted his ninth home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning.
Bats reliever Bill Bray (0-1) took the loss after giving up the go-ahead runs. Starter Bobby Livingston gave up five earned runs off 12 hits and struck out three batters in 5.1 innings.
Ron Chiavacci also lasted 5.1 innings for Toledo, walking five Bats, and allowing five earned runs. Vic Darensbourg (4-1) picked up the win after pitching 0.2 of an inning, while Aquilino Lopez pitched a perfect ninth inning to garner his 14th save of the season.
The Bats will conclude the unofficial first half of the season on Sunday with a 1:15 p.m. game against the Mud Hens. RHP Elizardo Ramirez (1-1, 3.55) for Louisville and RHP Dennis Tankersley (6-5, 5.62) for Toledo are the probable starters.
