Charlotte Knights News Release

FORT MILL, S.C. - The hot hitting Charlotte Knights finally had their bats cooled off. The Knights were 4-3 losers to visiting Columbus and had their three game winning streak snapped.

The Knights got solid pitching as starter Andrew Sisco went 4 innings allowing 3 runs with 3 walks and had 4 strikeouts. Sisco was done in by his pitch count as the former reliever threw 79 pitches in 4 innings.

Columbus starter John Lannan was great through 5.1 innings, allowing just 2 hits. Lannan left with the lead, but his bullpen couldn't hold it. Former Knights pitcher Felix Diaz gave up a two run home run to center fielder Jason Bourgeois.

After Columbus moved ahead in the 8th with a two run homer by Michael Restovich, the Knights answered back with a solo home run from designated hitter Ernie Young.

However, the Knights all-star reliever couldn't hold the lead as the Clippers out two men on with no out. A sacrifice bunt by Melvin Dorta moved the runners to second and third, and outfielder Brandon Watson drove in the winning run on a sacrifice fly.

The Knights loaded the bases with two outs but were unable to bring in any runners, as Ryan Sweeney struck out on a high fastball from pitcher Edward Valdez. It was Valdez's first save of the season.

Prior to the game the Knights placed outfielder Brian Anderson on the disabled list. Anderson had been the teams hot hitter of late, hitting 4 home runs over the last three games. The Knights activated catcher Ryan Smith from the disabled list.

The Knights will continue their home stand tomorrow against Columbus. RHP Lance Broadway (5-4, 3.41 ERA) will pitch for the Knights, RHP Emiliano Fruto (3-5, 3.86 ERA) will pitch for the Clippers.

The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. For ticket or event information, please contact the Knights front office at (704) 357-8071 or (803) 548-8050 or visit our website at www.charlotteknights.com for more information.
