Erie with 20 Hits in a 10-4 Win over Portland

Portland, Maine - Tarik Skubal struck out 10 over five scoreless innings while the Erie SeaWolves (34-13) offense set a new season-high with 20 hits and defeated the Sea Dogs (23-23) 10-4 on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.

Skubal (W, 1-1) was electric, striking out the first six batters he faced and 10 of 16 overall with no walks and just one hit allowed.

17 of the 20 SeaWolves hits were singles. Derek Hill set a new career-high with five hits. Isaac Paredes had four, while Josh Lester and Chace Numana had three each. Jose Azocar and Daniel Pinero each ended up with two.

Erie sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning against Sea Dogs' starter Matthew Kent and scored two runs on five hits to jump out to the early advantage.

Kent (L, 5-4) matched a career-high with 13 hits allowed over 4.1 innings. Kent gave up seven runs (six earned) while walking two and punching out five.

Erie extended their lead to 5-0 in the fourth thanks to an RBI by Paredes and a two-run homer from Azocar. The Wolves added two more runs in the fifth to make it 7-0.

Portland sent eight to the plate in the sixth against Anthony Castro and scored four runs on three hits, including a two-run home run by CJ Chatham to cut the deficit to 7-4.

Erie would rally back and score the next three runs to stretch the lead back to 10-4. Daniel Pinero homered in the eighth off of Jordan Weems to complete the scoring.

The three-game series concludes on Thursday afternoon with a 12:00 PM first pitch from Hadlock Field. RHP Konner Wade (2-4, 3.03) makes his 13th appearance of the season against Erie's RHP Alex Faedo (6-6, 3.99).
