Akron RubberDucks News Release
The Erie SeaWolves score early and often, totaling five runs through the first five innings to down the Akron RubberDucks 7-2 and hand Alex Royalty his first loss on Tuesday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
The SeaWolves jumoed out to an early 2-0 lead after the first half inning but added the critical runs it needed in the top half of the fourth. After a leadoff walk by Andre Lipcius, Josh Lester launched a no-doubt-about-it two-run home run to right-center field on a 1-1 offering, doubling the lead to 4-0 Erie. Erie would tack on an additional run in the top of the fifth when Riley Greene launched a big fly to right field off the new RubberDucks pitcher Eric Mock and extended the SeaWolves' lead to 5-0 after 4.5 innings.
Mound Presence
Alex Royalty got the start for the RubberDucks and struggled early allowing two runs in the first. Royalty would settle in and toss a scoreless second and third before allowing three runs over his last two innings of work. In total, Royalty would work four innings allowing four runs (three earned) and striking out four. Eric Mock took over on the mound for Akron and tossed two innings allowing one run. Francisco Perez would finish off the game for the Ducks allowing two runs while striking out six over three innings.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks were threating all night, but not getting anything across for the first four innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Akron's luck would change when Alex Call doubled home Jose Fermin to cut into the Erie lead. The Ducks would trim the lead down more when Trenton Brooks brought home Richie Palacios with a sac fly to make it 5-2. That is the closest Akron would get in the game. The RubberDucks left 8 on base and were 1-11 with RISP.
