Greenville Grrrowl News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Greenville Grrrowl of the East Coast Hockey League announced on Wednesday the signing of defenseman ERIC VAN ACKER. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Van Acker signed his contract at 11:41 this morning, and will be available for Greenville's next game Friday night at the BI-LO Center against the Charlotte Checkers (7:05 PM, Newsradio 1330 & 950 WORD).

"Eric brings the size, strength and defensive presence we need on the blueline", said Grrrowl VP of Hockey Operations and Head Coach John Marks. "He's a good penalty killer and should make immediate contributions in an experienced, defensive fashion."

Van Acker returns for his fourth season with the Grrrowl, and is now one of five players on the roster with a 2002 Kelly Cup Championship ring.

"It's been a long summer, and I just wanted to get back and play", said the 6'6", 235 pound St-Bernard-Lacolle, Quebec native. "It's my fourth year here, and I feel like a stranger walking in with so many new players in the locker room. The team is playing very well, though, and it shouldn't take long for our systems to develop. I'm so happy to be back and to be a part of this team."

Marks also announced that winger ETIENNE MORIN cleared waivers today at Noon. Morin is now a free agent eligible to sign with any team interested in his services. The Greenville Grrrowl host the Charlotte Checkers this Friday, November 1st at the BI-LO Center. Tickets for all Grrrowl home games are on sale at the BI-LO Center Box Office and all TicketMaster outlets.
