CHL Tulsa Oilers

Enlow top CHL Equipment manager

March 22, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

After 1,600 games, Tulsa Oilers equipment manager Steve Enlow is getting his due.

Enlow will receive the first Gunner Garrett award, as the top equipment manager in the CHL for the 2005-06 season. The award is voted by the CHL equipment managers and honors Garrett, a long time pro hockey equipment manager who retired from the Austin ice Bats last season.

Enlow has long been a fixture on the Tulsa hockey scene. His relationship with the Oilers dates back to 1970. He was a member of the Oilers Adams Cup championship team in the final year of the "original" CHL in 1983-84. When the league reorganized for the 1992-93 season, Enlow was right there again with the Oilers as they won the championship in the first year of the new league. That gave him the distinction of being part of two straight CHL championship teams, although they were separated by eight seasons.

"It's great for Steve to get this recognition from the other equipment managers around the league," Oilers coach Butch Kaebel said. "Everyone in our locker room knows how dedicated he is, and it's nice that everyone else sees it too." Enlow recently worked his 1600th professional game and will finish this season with 1,603 on the bench.

The Oilers return to action Friday March 24th against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at 7:35. That will be Cox Communications rally towel night, with the first 1,000 fans receiving a free towel from Cox Communications.
