LAREDO, Texas - The Central Hockey League announced today that Laredo Bucks A.T.C. Booby Moore has been selected as the 2005-2006 CHL Athletic Trainer of the Year, "Presented annually to the Central Hockey League athletic trainer selected by his or her peers to have performed their duties with the highest level of professionalism." This is the first year of the award, which was determined through balloting among other athletic trainers across the CHL. The Bucks are home Sunday also against the Corpus Christi Rayz to close the 2005-06 CHL regular season. Face off set for 4 p.m. For more information on 2005-06 Bucks single game or playoff tickets call the Bucks office at (956) 718-BUCK (2825) or log onto www.laredobucks.com.
Moore was named on nine of 15 ballots.
"When I first heard this year the CHL was going to honor a Trainer of the Year I was grateful to work in a league in which they recognized the contributions of certified athletic trainers. Then to be named the Certified Athletic Trainer of the Year by your colleagues is a real honor," Moore said. "I am a football guy who is now totally a hockey convert. I enjoy working this sport more than any other that I have worked in the past. I want to thank Glenn Hart and the ownership group for bringing the Bucks to Laredo and also Terry Ruskowski for hiring me."
Moore is a native of San Marcos, Texas. He attended San Marcos High School where he was a student athletic trainer for the Rattlers and graduated in 1969. After high school he attended Southern Methodist University and graduated in 1973 with a B.S. in Biology. He went back to college in 1982 and graduated with a degree in Physical Education in 1985 from Southwest Texas State. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin and obtained his Masters degree in School Health. While at the UT was a graduate assistant athletic trainer from 1985-87, and then from 1987-89 was a full-time assistant athletic trainer for the Longhorns.
From 1989-98 was the head athletic trainer at Southwest Texas State. In 1999 and 2000 was the head athletic trainer for the Scottish Claymores of NFL-Europe, and in 2001 he was the head athletic trainer for the Las Vegas Outlaws of the XFL. During the summers of 1999-2001 was a pre-season camp assistant athletic trainer for the Carolina Panthers of the NFL.
"Bobby is very thorough, punctual and professional in his duties," said Bucks head coach Ruskowski. "He is a great asset to the Laredo Bucks. I have total confidence in his ability to care for our players and get them back on the ice as quickly as possible. I am very happy and excited that he was won this award."
Moore, age 55, has been with the Bucks since their inception in the 2002-03 season.
Tulsa Equipment Manager Steve Enlow was honored as the 2005-06 CHL Equipment manager of the Year.
"We are very pleased to recognize the often overlooked accomplishments and efforts of both these individuals," said Duane Lewis, Vice President, Operations for the Central Hockey League. "They have clearly earned the respect and admiration of their peers across the CHL, and we thank them for setting a high standard in all areas of their operations."
The recipient of the 2005-2006 CHL Coach of the Year will be announced this afternoon, also selected through peer balloting.
