Tulsa's Enlow, Laredo's Moore Earn CHL Awards
March 22, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
The Central Hockey League has today announced the recipients of two new awards this season, honoring Tulsa Equipment Manager Steve Enlow and Laredo Athletic Trainer Bobby Moore. Both award winners were determined through balloting among their peers across the CHL.
Enlow has been named the 2005-2006 CHL Equipment Manager of the Year, "Presented annually to the CHL Equipment Manager selected by his or her peers to have performed their duties with the highest level of professionalism in honor of Gunner Garrett, former Austin Ice Bats Equipment Manager." Enlow has spent the past 26 years of his career as an Equipment Manager, 24 of those with the Tulsa Oilers dating back to 1970. In the 1977-78 season, Enlow became the Head Equipment Manager for the Colorado Rockies of the National Hockey League before returning to Tulsa for the final few years of the âold' CHL and was a member of the Oilers 1983-1984 Adams Cup Championship squad. Enlow would take another one year hiatus from Tulsa to work with the Dallas Freeze of the CHL in 1993-94, once again rejoining the Oilers in 1994-95 and performing his duties as Equipment Manager ever since. At the end of the current 2005-06 season, Enlow will have worked a total of 1603 professional games.
Laredo's Moore has been selected as the 2005-2006 CHL Athletic Trainer of the Year, "Presented annually to the Central Hockey League athletic trainer selected by his or her peers to have performed their duties with the highest level of professionalism." Moore, a native Texan, was born in Fort Worth and raised in the city of San Marcos. He received his Athletic Trainer Certification in 1985 and spent the following four years as a trainer for the basketball and track teams at the University of Texas in Austin. In 1989, Moore left UT to become the Head Athletic Trainer at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State), working primarily with the football program. Following 10 more years at the collegiate level, Moore went abroad in 1999 to work with the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe before returning to the US in 2001 for a position with the XFL's Las Vegas Outlaws. He joined the Laredo Bucks in their inaugural season of 2002-03 for his first hockey experience at any level and was a member of the 2003-2004 Ray Miron President's Cup Champions.
"We are very pleased to recognize the often overlooked accomplishments and efforts of both these individuals," said Duane Lewis, Vice President, Operations for the Central Hockey League. "They have clearly earned the respect and admiration of their peers across the League, and we thank them for setting a high standard in all areas of their operations."
The recipient of the 2005-2006 CHL Coach of the Year will be announced this afternoon, also selected through peer balloting. The Most Outstanding Defenseman and Most Outstanding Goaltender will be revealed on Thursday, with the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player award winners announced on Friday.
