Energy Overpower Austin At 2010 NBA D-League Showcase
January 6, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Iowa Wolves News Release
BOISE, ID Jan. 5, 2010 - The Cartier watch was on.
Not the timepiece, rather the 6-7 guard/forward for the Iowa Energy, playing to a crowd of NBA general managers and scouts, and showing why he's been one of the more talked about players at this week's 2010 NBA D-League Showcase.
Martin, who appeared in 33 games with the Charlotte Bobcats last season, scored 18 points on 5-for-8 shooting as the Energy dispatched the Austin Toros, 116-93 in the seventh game of the Showcase. Though his statistics aren't quite as gaudy as some of the NBA D-League's other top players, Martin's game is polished and effective.
"I try to work hard, be consistent, let the game come to me," said Martin, who made all seven of his free throws. "I was able to shoot the ball well, didn't rush things, got into a good rhythm and we were able to get another win."
Pat Carroll added 17 points for Iowa, while Curtis Stinson, the NBA D-League's top assist man, dished out 11 assists to go with 10 points. Austin's Curtis Jerrells, who was in training camp with the San Antonio Spurs this season, scored a game-high 26 points for the Toros. Lewis Clinch and Alonzo Gee each added 19 points for Austin.
Iowa (14-2) returns to action Thursday against Bakersfield. Austin (7-7) is back in action tomorrow against Sioux Falls.
