Des Moines, IA December 8, 2013 - The Iowa Energy fell to the defending NBA D-League Champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers 133-123 in the Energy's home opener.
The Energy had 7 players in double figures. Othyus Jeffers led the Energy with 26 points and 8 rebounds. Jarvis Varnado added 18 points and 18 rebounds in the loss. Moses Ehambe, Kalin Lucas, and Chris Allen each had 17 points. Patrick Christopher and Austin Freeman added 10 apiece.
6 players scored in double figures for Rio Grande Valley, and four players had double-doubles. Robert Covington scored 28 and 10 rebounds, shooting 6 of 9 from behind the arc. Isaiah Canaan finished with 22 points and 13 assists. The Vipers shot 20 of 44 from 3 point land.
Rio Grande Valley remains undefeated at 7-0. The Energy fall to 4-2 on the season.
The Energy will play their "Opening Night" game next Saturday, December 14 at 7PM, featuring team AcroDunk and a t-shirt giveaway.
