New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals bullpen continued to struggle Saturday evening at Yale Field, as a seventh inning homerun untied the ballgame, and surged the New Haven County Cutters to the 4-3 win

The Cutters jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when a run scored on an error by New Jersey second baseman Joe Mihalics. But the Jackals would overtake New Haven two innings later. A two RBI double by Sandy Madera and a double good for one RBI by Wilton Veras put the Jackals ahead 3-1 after three.

The score remained the same till the bottom of the fifth inning when New Haven came back to tie the ballgame. Ervin Alcantara's homerun made it a one run game, and Francisco Leandro's error in right field on a single by Kevin Whiteside, allowed Jeremy Pickrel to score. After five, the game was deadlocked at three.

New Haven used the longball again in the bottom of the seventh inning, this time to take a lead. A solo homerun by Orlando Encarnacion, off the New Jersey reliever Kevin Fitzgerald, made the Cutter lead 4-3, and they'd stay ahead for good.

Fitzgerald took the loss for the Jackals. Rolando Valles earned the win while allowing just three unearned runs in seven innings of work. He yielded just four hits. Andy Weimer pitched a perfect ninth inning for the save.
