
Pride Reduce Magic Number to One with an 11-3 Thumping of the Grays

(NASHUA, NH, September 1, 2007) Chris Colabello drove in five runs and Akira Okamoto posted his ninth win of the season as the Nashua Pride scored early and often to down the Can-Am Grays, 11-3, Saturday night in front of 1,947 fans at Historic Holman Stadium. The victory lowered Nashua's magic number to one to clinch a berth in the Can-Am League playoffs. Quebec kept its' slim post season hopes alive Saturday evening with a 6-1 triumph over Worcester in Quebec City.
The Pride scored four runs in the first inning off Gray's starter and loser Fontella Jones (5-5). The big hit in the uprising was a two-run double by Colabello who went on to stroke a two-run single in the second inning and got credit for an RBI on a bases loaded walk in the third inning. The league's leading hitter, Olmo Rosario of the Pride, was just one for four but picked up a pair of RBI's. Bryan Duplissie contributed a solo home run in the fourth inning for the Pride, his 16th of the season.
Okamoto (9-2) went seven innings, scattering nine hits, allowing three runs (two earned), walking no one and striking out six. Nashua reliever Eiji Yano went two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two to seal the victory.
The Pride will have a chance to clinch a playoff spot Sunday afternoon at 2:05 when they host the Grays in game two of this regular season-ending series in Nashua. Tim Bausher (RHP, 4-4, 3.25) will take the mound for the Pride with Beau Dannemiller (8-6, 3.66) scheduled to pitch for the Grays.
