Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - Six early runs from the Rome offense turned out to be too much for the Suns to overcome in their 6-1 loss to the Braves at Municipal Stadium Friday.
The force was strong with the Braves on Star Wars night, as the evil empire compiled 15 hits to even the four-game series at one game.
The scoring started early for the Braves (26-28), as the first three batters of the game reached base for the second consecutive night. Henry Quintero came in to score on an error for Rome's first run, and then a Logan Brown RBI single made it 2-0 in the first.
But that wasn't all for the Braves against Suns (24-30) starter Tomas Alastre (L, 3-4), who allowed six runs on 10 hits over just four innings of work.
Trey Harris picked up an RBI single in the third and then came around to score on a passed ball to add two runs in the third. The Braves got two more in the fourth on back-to-back RBI singles from Hagen Owenby and then Harris. Harris, the league's leading hitter, finished with a 4-for-5 to up his average to .377.
The Suns offense started hot, just as the Braves did, but couldn't keep the pressure on. Hagerstown responded in the first inning with a run on an RBI single off the bat of Jacob Rhinesmith. He was part of the top-five in the Suns who all had at least one hit. However, the bottom four in the order went a combined 0-for-13.
Rome starter Jose Olague (W, 5-4) was able to limit the damage over six strong innings, allowing just the one run on five hits. Flamethrower Luis Mora came in behind him and tosses two scoreless before turning it over to William Woods for a scoreless ninth.
Despite the suspect start from Alastre, the Suns bullpen was strong again, showing why the staff had the best ERA in the league in May. Jacob Howell and Angel Guillen each posted scoreless outings of two and three innings, respectively, to keep the score where it was, but the Hagerstown offense never came through.
Hagerstown continues its series with the Braves tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. RHP Joan Adon (3-1, 3.02 ERA) takes the hill for the Suns while RHP Trey Riley (2-5, 5.93 ERA) gets the ball for Rome.
Cinema continues its takeover of Municipal Stadium Saturday with Harry Potter night, but the promotions don't stop there, as Saturday is also Boy Scout night. Boy Scout troops will celebrate by camping out on the field after the game. Gates open at 6 p.m. Hagerstown closes the series with Sunday Funday June 2.
