Eugene Emeralds News Release

For a moment there, It was like nothing had changed.

Just days removed from a 1-5 homestand, the Emeralds were squandering opportunity after opportunity, wasting a bounce-back outing from Manuel Mercedes (4.2 innings pitched, two earned runs).

The Ems going down in order was the norm Wednesday night, the comeback bid was a nice rebuke from previous tradition.

But suddenly the Ems got their mojo, piecing together a two-run rally in the ninth that not only sent the game to extras but avoided the team's first shutout of the year.

An Onil Perez sac-fly set the stage for newcomer Ricardo Nolasco who blasted a homer that knotted the game at two.

Ultimately, it wasn't enough.

A Gabriel Moncada double off of Hunter Dula brought home the winning run and sent Everett home happy in the first game of this six-game series.

Bounceback

The Ems (19-14) are now tied in first-place with Spokane.

Looking to build off his impressive showings on the road, Seth Lonsway - who has allowed just three runs in 15 road innings - will be on the bump for the second game of the series.

Short hops

The loss brings the Ems' road record to an impressive 9-4

Nolasco's ninth-inning blast was the second of his Eugene career, his first being a double in the second.
