Emeralds Fall to Hillsboro, 4-0

EUGENE, Ore. - A day after smacking 14 hits, the Eugene Emeralds were held to just four hits and shut out for the first time this season in a 4-0 loss to Hillsboro at PK Park on Thursday night.

Eugene (15-13) ran into another strong outing by Hillsboro starter Jared Miller (6-0). The 6-foot-7 lefty allowed no runs on just three hits with a season-high 11 strikeouts. Miller has now picked up a win in each of his six starts this season in Hillsboro, with three earned runs allowed and 40 strikeouts.

Eugene starter Kyle Twomey allowed one hit over two innings while Jose Paulino picked up the loss after surrendering four runs (three earned) on nine hits in five innings with seven strikeouts. Ian Happ and Adonis Paula each doubled for the Emeralds.

It was scoreless until the fifth when Hillsboro tallied three RBI doubles in the inning. Fernery Ozuna drove in the first with a double to left, followed by a double to center by Zach Nehrir. Josh Anderson picked up another RBI double with a drive to left.

The Hops tacked on another run in the seventh on the fourth RBI double of the game for Hillsboro and the second for Anderson.

Notes: Hillsboro had more doubles (5) than Eugene had hits (4)...There were 27 combined strikeouts in the game...With 10 games left until the first half champion in each division is decided, the Ems sit a game back of Hillsboro and Salem-Keizer, which are tied for first.
