Elmira Jackals News Release

ESTERO, Fla. - November 6, 2013 - The Elmira Jackals announced today that they have signed veteran defenseman Marvin Degon.

"Marvin is going to be an important addition to our defensive group. He brings a lot of professional experience to our young corps, and plays well at both ends of the ice," said Jackals head coach Dwight Mullins.

Degon (DEE-gone) begins his eighth season as a professional with the Jackals after splitting last season between the Trenton Titans and Milan (Italy). Between stints in the American Hockey League, ECHL, German Elite League, Austrian League, and Italian League Degon has racked up 425 games, 202 points (50 goals, 152 assists) and 264 penalty minutes.

Degon, 30, gives the Jackals three veteran players, along with Jean Bourbeau and Kyle Bushee, on the active roster. The ECHL limits teams to four veterans (skaters who have played at least 260 regular season games of professional hockey) on their rosters.

Prior to turning pro, Degon, put up 83 points (27 goals, 56 assists) in 146 collegiate games at UMass-Amherst. The right-handed rearguard was named to the Hockey East First All-Star Team in 2006 after leading the Minutemen with 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists) in 36 games.

Degon has joined the team in Estero, Fla. and is expected to make his Jackals debut tonight against the Everblades.

Mark your calendars! The Jackals return home on November 15, 2013 to take on the Wheeling Nailers at 7:05 p.m. The Jackals will be giving away free poster schedules to the fans in attendance. Don't forget that groups of 10 or more who book in advance receive discounts off the box office price and preferred seating based on availability. Call 607-734-7825 to get your group outing booked.
