Ellison Leads Admirals Past Rivermen

March 14, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Matt Ellison stole the show on Friday night, scoring twice including the game winner and setting up Milwaukee's other goal as the Admirals downed the Peoria Rivermen 3-2 at the Bradley Center.

Ellison opened the scoring with his 22nd marker of the night, taking a Cal O'Reilly feed and beating rookie netminder Ben Bishop over the right shoulder from between the hash marks at 17:52 of the first period.

Peoria (32-25-4-4) tied the game quickly in the second when Jean-Guy Trudel netted his team-leading 9th power play marker of the season at 1:24, one-timing a shot past the left pad of Pekka Rinne to make it 1-1.

Mike Vigilante restored the Admirals lead with a power play goal of his own at 7:36 for a 2-1 lead at the break.

Once again the Rivermen would tie up the game in the third period, with Micki DuPont cruising down the slot and pounding home a Julian Talbot feed at 4:41 during a four-on-four situation.

But finally it would be Ellison and the Admirals (36-25-3-2) who had the last word at 12:23, just one second after a power play chance expired for Milwaukee. O'Reilly picked up his second helper of the night, roofing a shot over the shoulder of Bishop for the game winner.

Rinne made 18 saves to notch his AHL-leading 32nd win of the year, while Bishop made 21 saves in his professional debut and taking the loss.

Peoria finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play and now has a power play goal in its last five straight games. Milwaukee ended the night 1-for-6.

With the loss Peoria now sits five points behind Milwaukee with one game in hand for the fourth spot in the AHL's West Division playoff race.
