Moose sign Toews to ATO

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, announced they have signed goaltender Krister Toews to an amateur tryout contract.

Toews, 24, appeared in 28 games this past season with the University of Manitoba Bisons and compiled a record of 14-13-0 with a goals against average of 2.87 and a save percentage of .901. The Kleefeld, MB native ended up sixth in Canada West conference platy with a 2.99 GAA and eighth with a .897 save percentage. He also received the team's Mike Ridley Award for superior athletic ability, good academic standing, and a high level of leadership as a full-time student. In four seasons at the U of M, Toews finished with 46-49-8 record in 104 games played. He ended his career there with a 3.03 goals against average and a .899 save percentage. He captured the Mike Ridley Award each year he played with the Bisons and was named Canada West's Outstanding Freshman of the Year and named to the Canada West Second All-Star team following the 2005 season.

Toews also played in 123 career WHL games with the Portland Winter Hawks where he put together a record of 46-54-11 with a 2.88 goals against average and a .902 save percentage.
