
Elizabethton River Riders Drop Game One against Kingsport Axmen 7-3

Elizabethton, TN --- The Elizabethton River Riders (2-3) dropped game one of a two-game series against the Kingsport Axmen (2-3) 7-3 at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark Tuesday. RHP Robert Bavon (Oklahoma State) and LHP Jullian Clavelle (Sacramento City) continued to impress, combing for seven strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched
E-Town took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Lead-off hitter Logan Sanders (Pima) started the game with a single and scored on a throwing error to second base by Kingsport starting pitcher Malek Binns. DJ Sullivan (Florence-Darlington Tech) scored Garrison Berkeley (Texas Christian University) on a fielder's choice.
The Axmen responded in the top of the second inning by scoring four runs on a walk by Connor Milton (Illinois), a two-run single by Dante Leach (Ark-Pine Bluff), and a one-run single by designated hitter Will Spears (Ark-Little Rock). Bavon walked MJ Rodriguez (Oklahoma State) before striking out Anthony Tulimero (Kansas) to end the inning.
Bavon struck out five more batters in his two-inning appearance.
Kingsport scored three more runs in the top of the fifth inning giving them all seven of their runs on the night.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Eli Young (Gateway) hit the River Riders' second and final hit of the night, a single to right field.
In the top of the seventh inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, Manager Kevin Riggs called in Clavelle. While facing third baseman Hunter Fitz-Gerald (Hillsborough), shortstop Cal Hejza (Illinois) was caught trying to steal home on a tag by Clavelle, ending the threat and not allowing a run.
Clavelle finished with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings pitched.
The River Riders scored one more run in the ninth inning when Johnathan Soto (Rogers State) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Sullivan for the third and final run of the game.
Between Kingsport and Elizabethton, there were seven errors in tonight's game.
