Doughboys Drop Road Contest to Flyboys, 12-5

The red-hot Johnson City offense was held to just five hits, and Greeneville powered forward for a 12-5 win at Pioneer Park on Tuesday night in the Flyboys' home opener.

Johnson City (2-3) struck first in the opening inning when Jaxson Crull walked and came around to score on a wild pitch. Later, Crull drove in a run himself when he grounded out to score Connor James from third. From there, however, the game was controlled by Greeneville (3-2), who collected 12 hits on their way to another blowout victory.

Ethan Bosacker started the game on the mound for the Doughboys and retired the first six Flyboy batters before eventually exiting the game after three innings and three earned runs. Damon Cox took the loss for the visitors.

In the fifth inning, Cherokee Nichols got his league-leading fifth double of the season to fall in center field. Nichols is now 6-for-14 at the plate with all of his hits going for extra bases.

Five Flyboys picked up at least two hits in the win for Greeneville, with Chris Williams leading the way. The Greeneville third baseman went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

The road stretch wraps up for Johnson City with another trip to Greeneville on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7 p.m at Pioneer Park.
