El Paso Diablos News Release

El Paso, TX - In the Diablos first meeting with the Laredo Lemurs, the Diablos lost a very close contested series 3-1, in their first of five series against Laredo this season.

This first game of the series was as close as it can get, Laredo winning by a final score of 2-1. Starting pitcher Carlos Monasterios had his best showing of the season going 5.0 innings, only giving up one run, on one hit, with two strikeouts. Despite the Diablos out hitting the Lemurs eight to three, the Diablos had trouble putting together consecutive hits to produce more than one run.

The second game of the series proved to be a repeat of the first with another close margin of victory for Laredo winning 4-3 over the Diablos to take a 2-0 lead in the four game series. The starting pitching from the Diablos was once again solid, this time from Kevin Brahney who went 6.0 innings, only giving up two runs, on three hits, with four strikeouts. From a batting standpoint third baseman Omar Luna was terrific going three for four with one RBI.

In the third game of the series the Diablos once again came up short, losing the game 4-1, and the series. Newly acquired pitcher Anthony Smith pitched the whole game for the Diablos only giving up four runs, on eight hits, with six strikeouts. The Diablos struggled offensively again, despite another great showing from Omar Luna going two for four.

In the last game of the series the Diablos made their mark dominating the Lemurs 11-3, finishing the series on a good note. Right from the start the Diablos bats were on fire, scoring six runs in the first three innings. The Lemurs cut the lead to four in the fifth inning scoring two runs, but the Diablos came with another offensive attack scoring five runs in the seventh and eighth inning to take a commanding 11-3 lead. Omar Luna continued his success in the series going two for four with one RBI, designated hitter Murray Watts had a huge night going two for four with 5 RBIs, first baseman Jonathan Cisneros and catcher Thomas McAlpine also contributed with two RBIs of their own.

Despite losing the series 3-1, the Diablos displayed great pitching, and in the last game an amazing offensive attack. Hopefully the Diablos can continue this going into their next series, and future series against Laredo.
