Offense dominates in eighth straight win

AMARILLO, TX - The Sox managed to score in six different innings, defeating El Paso 14-3 at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium. The ballpark was filled with 1,109 fans to see Amarillo win by the same score as the previous night in two hours and fifty one minutes. Every Sox batter got a hit in the victory which makes their record against the Diablos 8-1 for the season.

After Kristhiam Linares' one-two-three top of the first, the Sox supported their starter with two runs in the bottom half. Jason Martin led off with a single and would score on a Chris Grossman double to the left field warning track, off the glove of Brian Joynt. The next batter, David Peralta made it 2-0 to drive in Grossman. The Diablos cut the deficit in half during the top of the third with an RBI groundout from Jose Garcia.

Amarillo had a three run lead after a Brandon Jones double, a KC Serna single, and another Martin single in the fourth. Serna and Martin would finish the game with three hits each. The lead increased to eight for the Sox after the fifth. Doubles led off the inning by Grossman and Peralta, followed by a Cory Patton RBI single. Trey Ford came up with two runners on and faced two near hit-by-pitches before launching a three-run homer to left center. Manager Carlos Lezcano for the Diablos would pull his starter, Carlos Monasterios after giving up the long ball.

Jones batted in Amarillo's tenth run in the sixth with a groundout to short. In the seventh, El Paso scored two runs on two hits and an error, taking Linares out of the game with one out. Josh Giles would relieve the Sox starter by throwing one pitch to induce an inning-ending double play. The Sox answered in the home half of the seventh with three runs on four hits off Diablos' reliever, Derek Forbes to make it 13-3. El Paso put in Miguel Chacoa for the eighth. KC Serna doubled in Jones, who led off the inning with a walk.

Kristhiam Linares (W, 2-0) gave up three runs, two earned on four hits while walking one and striking out five in six and third innings pitched. Josh Giles pitched an inning and two thirds for the Sox, allowing no runs on no hits. Erik Draxton put down the Diablos in order during the ninth, finishing with one strikeout and dropping his ERA to 0.59 on the year.

Carlos Monasterios (L, 0-3) pumps his ERA past ten, giving up nine runs on ten hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Derek Forbes went two and two thirds and allowed four runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out three. Miguel Chacoa's inning pitched rendered a run on one hit with one walk.

With the win, the Sox improve to 18-12, while the Diablos fall to 7-24 on the season. Wednesday, the Sox host the El Paso Diablos for last game of the triple set. The game is set to begin at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show at 6:55pm on Ustream via www.amarillosox.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
