Winston-Salem Dash News Release
SALEM, VA. - Facing a 2-0 deficit, the Dash scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to key a 3-2 victory and a series split with the Salem Red Sox on Sunday afternoon at Haley Toyota Field.
After Yeyson Yrizarri popped out to start the eighth, Tyler Frost blooped a single into right field off Salem (7-4, 32-46) reliever Hunter Smith to ignite the rally. Zach Remillard then flared a double down the right-field line to plate Frost for the Dash's (4-7, 42-33) first run of the ballgame. Remillard finished the game 3-for-4, notching his second straight three-hit game.
Following Remillard's hit, Smith was replaced by Joan Martinez (3-1). But, Winston-Salem continued to rally as Steele Walker bounced a single through the left side, scoring Remillard to tie the contest at two. Jameson Fisher then grounded out to advance Walker to second. With two outs, Craig Dedelow deposited a single into right-center field to score Walker and give the Dash a 3-2 edge.
Salem took an early lead against Dash starter Kade McClure in the bottom of the second. Pedro Castellanos started off the frame by ripping a double into left field. The next batter, Keith Curcio, smacked a double of his own into right-center field to bring home Castellanos and make it 1-0. Follwoing Curcio's double, Edgar Corcino lined a single into left field to score Curcio and push the Red Sox lead to two runs.
McClure settled into a groove after the two-run second. The right-hander finished the day with a quality start, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking none. It was the fourth quality start for McClure in five outings with the Dash.
In relief of McClure, Will Kincanon (1-3) and Luis Ledo held Salem scoreless in the final three frames. Ledo pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts to earn a six-out save.
The Dash begin a three-game set with the Down East Wood Ducks on Monday at 7 p.m. Left-hander Konnor Pilkington (1-3, 6.09 ERA) is set to take the hill for Winston-Salem against right-hander Alex Eubanks (6-2, 2.63 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn Radio App.
Following the three-game series at Down East, the Dash return to BB&T Ballpark for a six-game homestand from July 4-9 against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers and Frederick Keys. The homestand begins with the annual Fourth of July Extravaganza, presented by the City of Winston-Salem, with festivities beginning at 4:30 p.m. and concluding with the city's official fireworks show. After the holiday festivities, the series with Fayetteville concludes with a Fireworks Friday and live music on Saturday.
