August 25, 2009 - Frontier League (FL)
Southern Illinois Miners News Release
MARION Ill. -Â The Miners offense exploded early against Evansville as the Miners began their three-game series with a 12-6 win over the Otters. Landon Camp's grand slam highlighted an eight-run first inning for Southern Illinois. The win extended the Miners win streak to eight games, matching a franchise record set in August 2007.
The first inning outburst was more than starter Joe Augustine needed, as he allowed four runs in 6.0 innings and took home his seventh win of the year. Meanwhile, Evansville starter Kyle Dahman was saddled with the loss as he did not survive the first inning, giving way to reliever Kai Tuomi with two outs in the first frame.
Tuomi ate up 5.1 innings for the Otters but allowed a single run in the third, fourth and fifth inning.
Of the 10 Miners players who batting in the game, seven of them had multiple base hits. Adam Hale and Will Block both went home with three RBIs.
Wednesday the Miners will try to extend the win-streak to a franchise record nine games as the Miners Brett Scarpetta (4-4, 3.45) takes the mound against Evansville's Dustin Renfrow (5-7, 5.15). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Miners return home on Tuesday, Sept. 1 against the Windy City ThunderBolts. For tickets and a complete schedule, visit www.southernillinoisminers.com.
