Albany Devils News Release

LOWELL, Mass. - The Lowell Devils set a club record for goals in a game and ended a seven-game winless streak as they trounced the Providence Bruins, 8-1, in front of 4,107 on Saturday night at the Tsongas Arena. Jon DiSalvatore, Barry Tallackson and Chad Wiseman each scored a pair of markers for the offense that broke the record of seven goals set on February 26, 2008 at Manchester

The Devils scored early and often in a five-goal first frame that also tied a club record for goals scored in a period. DiSalvatore got things started on the power play at 2:04 as he was left alone in the slot to take a Wiseman centering pass from down low and fire it through the five-hole of Tuukka Rask.

DiSalvatore would light the lamp again five minutes later and put Lowell up, 2-0, with his eighth goal of the season.

Lowell then rattled off three goals in a span of 2:38 to put an exclamation point on their stellar first period. Wiseman's first goal of what was a four-point night (2g, 2a) for the Devils left wing came at 9:08. As the puck lay on the dot after a faceoff on the near side of the Bruins' zone, Wiseman reached in and snuck a wrister under the pads of Rask.

Though Kevin Regan came into replace Rask, the Devils continued to pour it on as Petr Vrana notched a power play goal at 11:30 that made the score, 4-0. Sixteen seconds later, Barry Tallackson skated down the left wing and released a backhander that sailed past Regan's glove and inside the far post. Rask would come back into the contest to relieve Regan, who made one save on three shots over 2:38 of work.

Jeremy Reich foiled the Devils' shutout bid and notched the only goal of the second period as the two teams skated four-on-four. After a failed clearing attempt by Lowell, no one picked up Reich on the near post as he deflected Jeff Penner's point shot into the top shelf.

The Devils rebounded in the third stanza with three goals from the special team units. Wiseman and Annsi Salmela both converted on the power play as Lowell scored a season high four goals on the man-advantage on five opportunities.

Tallackson wrapped up the record-setting night on the penalty kill, fooling Rask with a wrister from the far circle for a shorthanded goal with 3:28 remaining.

Lost in all the offense was a solid effort by goalie Jeff Frazee, who stopped 32-of-33 shots for his seventh win of the season. The Devils also held the Bruins power play scoreless over five chances.

The Devils host the Hartford Wolf Pack for a matinee at 4:00pm on Sunday, December 28. Listen to all of the action live on 980AM-WCAP as Ryan Johnston brings you all of the play-by-play. Contact the Devils at (978) 458-PUCK (7825) for more information or log on to www.lowelldevilshockey.com.
