Aeros lose second straight game, 3-2 to Quad City

HOUSTON, Texas - The Houston Aeros dropped their second straight game Saturday night when they lost to the Quad City Flames 3-2 at i wireless Center. Jesse Schultz and Mitch Love each scored for the Aeros, but the team never held a lead as Peter Vandermeer, Kris Chucko and David Van der Gulik all scored for the Flames. The season series is now tied at one win each for the Flames and Aeros. Houston continues their three-in-three tomorrow night when they visit the Peoria Rivermen at 7:00 p.m at Carver Arena.

The teams skated to a scoreless first period, but the Flames scored two goals in the first 8:30 of the second period. Peter Vandermeer opened the scoring at the 4:30 mark of the second and Kris Chucko buried a centering pass at the 8:30 mark to give the home team a 2-0 lead. Aeros defenseman-turned-forward Mitch Love notched his first goal of the season at the 14:30 mark to cut the Flames' lead to 2-1 before the intermission.

David Van der Gulik notched the eventual game winner just 1:23 into the final period when he took a pass from Carsen Germyn and directed into the goal. It was Van der Gulik's ninth of the season. The Aeros again cut the lead in half when Jesse Schultz buried a one-timer at the 6:14 mark on the power play. It was Schultz sixth of the season and third in the last two games. Houston was unable to score the equalizer in the final moments of the game and has now lost two straight games.

Barry Brust stopped 27 of 30 shots for Houston and Leland Irving stopped earned the win for the Flames stopping 27 of 29 shots. The Aeros finished the game with one power play goal on four chances and killed all three of the Flames chances. Houston has recorded a power play goal in 10 of their last 11 games.
