Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - By the time Friday night's game between the Edmonton Oil Kings and Brandon Wheat Kings was over, both Elvis and defence had left the building, as the Oil Kings defeated their royal counterparts 8-4 in a wild affair at Rexall Place.

With the Oil Kings playing the Wheat Kings, it was Salute To Elvis Night in Edmonton, and the home side was saying thank you, thank you very much, as they found the back of the net eight times. By sending the Wheat Kings to heartbreak hotel on Friday, the Oil Kings improved to 12-14-0-2 and took sole possession of eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Oil Kings leading scorer Michael St. Croix continued his torrid pace as of late, scoring twice and adding a pair of assists to give him 34 points through 28 games. Captain Mark Pysyk also had a huge game, scoring once and adding three helpers. Jordan Hickmott, Travis Ewanyk, Kristians Pelss and T.J. Foster each also scored for Edmonton, as did defenceman Braeden Laroque, whose first-period tally was his first career WHL goal.

Ewanyk's goal just 1:58 into the first period got the Oil Kings off on the right foot, but the Wheat Kings replied with three straight to go up 3-1. Laroque and Pelss scored to tie it up at 3-3, but Ryan Pulock made it 4-3 Brandon after one. It was all Edmonton from that point on, as they scored four times in a dominant middle frame and added one more in the third to win easily.

Edmonton netminder Laurent Brossoit had a shaky first period, giving up four goals on 11 shots, but he was lights-out in the second and third, turning aside 22 shots in total to pick up the victory. The Oil Kings outshout the Wheat Kings 35-26 on the night, with Brandon goalie and St. Albert native Liam Liston surrendering seven goals on 27 shots through 40 minutes.

With Friday's Salute To Elvis Night against the Wheat Kings in the books, the Oil Kings head to Calgary again to play the Hitmen on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Their next home game is Saturday, Dec. 11 against the Kelowna Rockets at 7 p.m., as it's Kids Eat Free Night at Rexall Place.
