Schenn Returns
December 3, 2010 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - It's now official. The National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings have confirmed that 19-year old center Brayden Schenn is on his way back to the defending Western Hockey League Eastern Division Champion Brandon Wheat Kings.
In addition to returning to the Wheat Kings, the fifth overall selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in Montreal is expected to be added to Hockey Canada's list of players invited to attend this year's Selection Camp in Toronto.
A 3-year WHL veteran, Schenn signed an NHL Entry Level contract with Los Angeles last spring and has spent the first two months of the regular season with the Kings, with the exception of a two week conditioning assignment in the American Hockey League.
A member of last year's Silver Medal winning Canadian team at the World Junior Hockey Championships, the 19-year old Saskatoon product helped to lead Brandon to within one win of the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup Championship.
Schenn, who led the team in playoff scoring last season with eight goals and 19 points in fifteen games, shared the team scoring title with Matt Calvert in 2009-10, after leading the WHL club in scoring the two previous years.
In 59 games last season, the 6' 195 lb center scored career highs in goals (34), assists (65) and points (99). During his three years in Brandon, he has scored 94 goals and 258 points in 195 career WHL games.
A first team Eastern Conference All Star in 2009-10, Schenn played eight games with the NHL's Kings this season, picking up two assists. While skating with the AHL's Manchester Monarchs last month, Brayden had three goals, 7 points and four penalty minutes in seven games.
The Wheat Kings, who open up a 2-game Alberta road trip Friday night in Edmonton, will return home to kick off a 3-game home stand Wednesday night against the visiting Everett Silvertips.
