February 28, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
(Edmonton, AB) - The Edmonton Oil Kings are proud to support the inaugural Western Hockey League (WHL) Suits Up with Don Cherry Night to Promote Organ Donation presented by RE/MAX on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Rogers Place as they take on the Calgary Hitmen in another edition of the Battle of Alberta.
On this special night, the Oil Kings will wear special limited-edition Don Cherry-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off through silent auction and raffle during Friday's game. All proceeds from the jersey sales will be donated to The Kidney Foundation of Canada - Northern Alberta & the Territories Branch. The Kidney Foundation of Canada is committed to the enhancement of kidney health and helping to improve the lives of those living with kidney disease.
"Alberta is tied for first in living donor rates in Canada, but is among the worst in decreased donation rates, so there remains a shortage of available organs for transplantation" said Manuel Escoto, The Kidney Foundation of Canada - Northern Alberta & the Territories Branch Communications & Special Projects Coordinator. "The Kidney Foundation's partnership with the WHL provides our foundation with an invaluable opportunity to engage with the broader community, educate and create awareness so others can start the conversation regarding the importance of organ donation and speak to their family about their wishes."
Fans in attendance at Friday's Oil Kings game have the opportunity to win one of 1,000 special-edition Don Cherry bobbleheads through scratch and win to ensure all fans have an equal chance of winning. All other fans in attendance will receive a limited-edition Don Cherry trading card courtesy of Upper Deck.
"The Edmonton Oil Kings are excited to showcase our one-of-a-kind Don Cherry-themed jerseys to our fans while supporting The Kidney Foundation of Canada - Northern Alberta & the Territories Branch that serves our community," said Kevin Radomski, Edmonton Oil Kings Director of Business Operations. "Oil Kings fans continue to show their passion for our team and their commitment to making a difference in our community is unparalleled. These specialty jerseys are the ultimate collector's item for any Edmonton Oil Kings fan. This Friday, our club will be suiting up for another installment of the Battle of Alberta while helping a great local charity. We encourage fans to come experience the game and auction at Rogers Place."
In addition to the full set of game-worn uniforms from the Oil Kings, we will also have two exclusive jerseys autographed by Don Cherry. One will be available through silent auction, the other via raffle.
"RE/MAX is proud to be part of the Edmonton Oil Kings first-ever WHL Suits Up with Don Cherry Night in support of The Kidney Foundation - Northern Alberta & the Territories Branch. RE/MAX has been a long-time supporter of organ donation," said Jolene Langelle, RE/MAX Elite Windermere Associate Broker. "We're pleased to partner with Don Cherry to raise awareness for this important cause."
