Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Prince Albert, SK. - The Brandon Wheat Kings missed a golden opportunity to tighten their grip on a Western Hockey League playoff berth Tuesday night.
In what was the final game of a 4-game road trip for Brandon, the Wheat Kings fell 6-2 to the Prince Albert Raiders in a game that could go a long way in determining the playoff fate for both WHL clubs.
A win on Tuesday would have put the Wheat Kings ten points up on the Raiders in the tight Eastern Division but the loss now means Brandon will be doing a lot of scoreboard watching during the final two weeks of the 2017-18 regular season.
The Raiders capitalized on a number of odd-man rushes, with the club's top line of Curtis Miske, Jorday Stallard and Cole Fonstad combining for three goals and six points as Prince Albert moved to within six points of the fourth place Wheat Kings in the standings.
The win also moved Prince Albert into a tie with Saskatoon for fifth in the East.
Only two of the three clubs "" Brandon, Prince Albert and Saskatoon "" will make post season play.
Ty Lewis scored twice in a losing cause for the Wheat Kings, who were outshot by a wide margin.
Logan Thompson, who turned aside 45 shots in Brandon's 6-3 win over Calgary on Sunday, was called upon to make 36 more on Tuesday while Prince Albert's Ian Scott kicked aside 21 Wheat King shots.
The Wheat Kings, who are now 33-25-3-2 on the season, will return home to host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday "" in a game presented by Ashley HomeStore.
Tickets to the game are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
