
Eddie Pope Named to United States National Team

CHANTILLY, VA (April 11, 2002) - United States Men's National Team head coach Bruce Arena named D.C. United defender Eddie Pope to the 18-man roster for the upcoming friendly against Ireland on April 17. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 at 2:30 p.m. ET and via tape delay that evening on Telemundo at 11:30 p.m. ET.
"Every time I am called to the National Team, I feel honored," said Pope. "I'm looking forward to playing in Ireland next week and to the possibility of representing our country in the World Cup."
Pope has registered 47 international caps for the United States and tallied four goals. He served as a regular on the U.S. backline that earned its fourth consecutive World Cup berth. In 2001, he appeared in 9 of the team's 15 matches.
