ECHL's Greenville Grrrowl Face Pee Dee In Division Finals

GREENVILLE – The East Coast Hockey League's Southeast Division, regular-season Champion Greenville Grrrowl will play the Pee Dee Pride in the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs starting tomorrow and Saturday at the BI-LO Center in Greenville. Both teams advanced to the Southeast Division Playoff Finals by winning a fifth-and-deciding game at home last night. The Grrrowl beat the Florida Everblades 4-3 while Pee Dee beat the Columbia Inferno 5-4.

Pee Dee finished the regular season four points behind the Grrrowl in second place in the division with 88 points and a 41-25-6 record including 25-10-1 at home and 16-15-5 on the road. The Pride have qualified for the playoffs all five seasons, 1997-2002, they have played in Florence, South Carolina after relocating from Knoxville, Tennessee where they played as the Cherokees from the League's inception in 1988 through 1997. They are 20-21 in playoff games and 5-4 in playoff series since moving to Florence and 25-39 all-time in playoff games and 6-9 all-time in playoff series.

The Grrrowl are 16-14-2 all-time versus Pee Dee during regular season play including 4-2-1 this year. They are now 11-9 all-time in playoff games and 3-1 all-time in playoff series. Last night's win also upped the Grrrowl record to 4-1 when facing playoff elimination including 2-0 in fifth-and-deciding games.

The schedule for the Pee Dee series is as follows:

Game One – Friday April 12th at the BI-LO Center in Greenville at 7:05 p.m.
Game Two – Saturday April 13th at the BI-LO Center in Greenville at 7:05 p.m.
Game Three – Tuesday April 16th in Florence, SC at 7 p.m.
Game Four – Wednesday April 17th in Florence, SC at 7 p.m. (if necessary)
Game Five – Thursday April 18th at the BI-LO Center in Greenville at 7:05 p.m. (if necessary)

The winner of the series between the Grrrowl and Pee Dee will face the winner of the Southwest Division Playoff Finals between the Mississippi Sea Wolves and the Jackson Bandits in the Southern Conference Finals. Mississippi swept the Pensacola Ice Pilots three games to none in the first round of the playoffs while Jackson upset the Brabham Cup, regular-season Champion Louisiana IceGators three games to two despite having to play four of the five games on the road.
